This is a day where we as a school can show our support for the huge number of Service families in the UK. Red, White and Blue Day is a national campaign to raise money and awareness of the three Armed Forces charities. Wearing the patriotic colours of red, white and blue, the children will be raising money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, The Soldiers’ Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund, who provide a full range of care for all generations of the Armed Forces family. This campaign is run annually by the three official Service charities, supported by the three Services themselves. It’s an opportunity to highlight the work of the Armed Forces and the difficulties their families face.

We ask you to pay £1 per family to support this day and your child/children can wear non-uniform colours of red, white and blue. This day is also to remember 100 years of the start of World War 1 and Remembrance Day. Our Year 6’s will be reading poems they have written in our Friday assembly on this day. This was an especially pleasing result since Jake and Brandon were competing for the first time alongside Mark and Harry who are almost veterans!

No stranger to the course, Mathew anchored the remaining three boys, Jamie and Lewis also making strong debuts at the event.

Caitlin was at last joined by some female company in the shape of Abigail and Sinead who ran excellent legs before Caitlin brought the team home with the biggest smile of the day!

It was extremely pleasing to see everyone who took part enjoying the event and doing the school proud with their impressive display of teamwork and individual endeavour.

Thank you to all those adults who braved the weather and gave their support on the day. See some photo’s via this link.

Best ever turn out brings success to Hurst Knoll St James’ in the Tameside Primary Cross Country Championships!

On a chilly morning on 1st February twelve boys and girls (our best number of participants yet) competed against other primary schools across Tameside in yet another very competitive cross country event.

This was even more so due to the fact that the overall top ten boys and girls would be picked to represent Tameside in the upcoming Greater Manchester Championships. As such, this meant that the Year 3/4 boys and girls would also have to run the longer course usually reserved for the Year 5/6 runners!

Two of our Year 4 runners enjoyed success in their races, with Harry finishing third and picking up a bronze medal in the Year 3/4 race and Jake, running against older boys, finishing eighth in the Year 5/6 race. This was a fantastic achievement, as Jake has now been selected for the Tameside boys’ team, made all the more impressive since he had already played a game of football earlier that morning!

Sinead and Georgia both put in sterling efforts as the only girl runners in their age categories, with Brandon and Lewis joining Harry in the Year 3/4 boys’ race and coping well with the longer course.

The boys’ Year 5/6 race was our most strongly represented category – regulars Mark, Mathew and Jamie being bolstered by the aforementioned Jake and debutants Joe, (who had not been put off by watching his brother Lewis in the relays) Thomas and Michael, all of whom put in determined efforts to complete a tricky course.

Many thanks once again to Mrs Howarth who organised the runners on the day and to all those parents/carers who came and supported them.
, 09 Jul 2014 09:34:49 GMTTuesday Coffee Mornings
Come and join us for a coffee morning every Tuesday 9.00 – 10.00.

Our first meeting will be on Tuesday 21st January 2014.
