Art

Art is a powerful and meaningful form of communication. It allows children to express their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and individuality in ways that words sometimes cannot. At Hurst Knoll, we believe that every child is an artist, and we are committed to nurturing their creativity and imagination. Through high-quality teaching and rich artistic experiences, we equip our children with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to express themselves clearly and thoughtfully. By developing their understanding of techniques, materials, and artistic processes, we enable them to grow as independent, reflective, and resilient learners. We want our children to leave Hurst Knoll not only as skilled artists, but as confident communicators who can use creativity to succeed in school and beyond.

Our aim at Hurst Knoll:

  • Understand that art is a form of expression and this can be done in many forms.

  • Talk about, generate and develop ideas, using a range of media and techniques.

  • Use sketch books to explore ideas in EYFS and KS1 and, by Year 6, pupils will be using a systematic and independent approach to research, test and develop ideas and plans.

  • Use skills and knowledge and apply this to art forms.

  • Consider different styles of art and looking at the work of different artists through examples, books and visits.

  • Evaluate and analyse using the language of art and celebrate their achievements and the achievements of their peers.
