Year One

Hello and welcome to Year 1! This page hopefully has all the information you need but if you have any questions please ask.

PE

PE will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. Children should come into school wearing their school uniform and bring their PE kits to put in their lockers. PE kits should be a white t-shirt, trainers and black shorts or joggers.

Reading and Phonics

The best way to support your child’s learning at school is by reading at home! Every child will get a new book bag with a reading record, we will be reading in school regularly and ask that children bring their books in every day.

We use ReadWriteInc to teach children how to read and write using phonics, for more information, support and guidance see this website below. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/

Water bottles

Children should come into school with a named, reusable bottle filled with water every day. They will be kept in the classroom so that the children can access it when they need it.

The curriculum map and end of year expectations below shows the topics that are covered in Year 1 and the standard that the children work to words during the year.

The transition from Reception to Year 1 can be a tricky one and this guide highlights some of the challenges that children may face and how you can support them.

Towards the end of Year 1 children sit their Phonics Screening Check. The attached document helps to answer some of the questions you may have about this process.
