Music
At HKSJ we believe that music makes a vital contribution to life and learning, and that it should be celebrated, promoted, and encouraged. Singing forms part of school-life; the whole school joins in weekly singing assemblies, and music is included in all our Collective Worship, Church and celebration assemblies.
All children will have weekly sessions either following the online scheme Charanga (KS1) or a session delivered by Miss Hughes (KS2) who is our Music coordinator.
EYFS and KS1
EYFS and KS1 use the online scheme Charanga. The learning within this Scheme is based on: Listening and Appraising; Musical Activities — creating and exploring; and Singing and Performing.
KS2
In KS2, Music is delivered to all classes by Muss Hughes who is our Music Coordinator. Miss Hughes has a Musical degree, is an accomplished musician and is best-placed to deliver the Music curriculum to our KS2 children.
Until the start of the 2025 / 2026 academic year, Music was delivered by Tameside Music Service. As we move to teaching Music 'in house', a transitional curriculum is in place which will be replaced with our new curriculum from September 2026.
